Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Do We Really Have to See So Much of Harringay Go Under the Knife?

An article in the Ham & High came across my desk today about residents of the Hillcrest council estate in Highgate. The report concerns their protests about discussions to build additional social housing in the green space around their estate.

This made me think about the recent site allocations plan and the huge amounts of Harringay that will probably be up for development soon. I checked the Plan and noted that the Hillcrest estate isn't part of it despite protestations that development sites in the west of the borough are badly needed.

We were told that the reason that so much of Harringay was up for development was because Boris targets have to be met and there were no other options. Here, casually presented is another option. How many other options have been casually missed?

Unless I've missed something, this shakes my faith in the quality of work that underpins the Plan and makes me wonder if we really have to see so much of Harringay go under the knife.

Don't get me started. At least this is for social housing. Haringey councillors have just approved two private houses to be built in peoples back gardens in Stroud Green . Both the quality of the Plan and the planners is seriously questionable. The planner' s report for one of them is downright incompetent and we will be raising this further. When we raised an important omission I saw the Chair of the meeting and Head Of Development look at each other in surprise. But unfortunately the councillors, most of whom rubber stamp all development recommended by the officers, failed to notice. I really feel disillusioned with the democratic process.
