Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Do we have a "legitimate community" in Harringay?

One of Blair's favourite thinkers has realised that communities are more important that individualism.

Charles Leadbeater has written: "The challenge is to develop a "legitimate community" – not tribalism, but one which allows for criticism, experimentation and adventure as well as solidarity."

Would a residents association in Kensington constitute an illegitimate community? Or were you speaking (as I suspect you were not) of the Cuidad Perdida of Mexico city, et al?

Just came across this whilst looking for something else. Thanks for posting Adam. It's an interesting article you linked to. Strange how reading something written on April 14th seems like reading something written by a different generation.

I like this quote from Leadbetter:

"There is a pervasive sense that life is increasingly organised through fleeting, impersonal transactions rather than lasting relationships."

Maybe Leadbeater lives in a brothel?

I think you're right, Hugh: 'Lead better' might have been a better name for one of Blair's favourite thinkers.  Or did they mean 'tinkers'? The man seems to be hankering after a legitimate community of loving diggers, tinkers and lead beaters that only ever existed in Utopia.

Sometimes no other response is possible except astounded admiration. Truly, my woolly winter hat comes off for Leadbeater. A man so influential and still taken so seriously, despite having nothing whatever to say of any originality or usefulness. Charlie you're amazing. What's the secret?
