Does anyone know of a charity that would collect a mattress for free?

On the whole charities don't want mattresses. They have to be in absolutely perfect condition with fire safety labels still attached. I've just been trying to get rid of an entire house full of furniture and the message from the usual suspects like British Heart Foundation and Sue Ryder is that they have an oversupply of everything so you might struggle with them even if it is in acceptable condition. I had some success with https://www.barnetfurniturecentre.org/ so they might be worth a try. Otherwise Haringey Council with take it for £20 https://haringey.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/bulky-item-collections. Or if you have suitable transport there is the Western Rd recycling centre. Hopefully that is useful and not just telling you stuff you already know.

Thank you very much, like this I don’t loose time running around!

Also, beware people offering to take a mattress for less than the council as they are often fly tipped 😞
