Hi all. My other half is in the market for a new suit, and I distinctly remember someone telling me ages ago that there was a discount outlet of a major suit shop (possibly TM Lewin or similar?) based on Green Lanes. I can't seem to find it on any Google searches, but this would be ideal for him - if I didn't dream it!
can anyone help?

You'll find the answer on the lovely bridge poster (is one of the advertisers)! Can't remember the name but is righthand side of GL heading north just past Tescos.
It's the Hawes and Curtis outlet shop near the corner of Colina Rd and Green Lanes (opposite Beresford Road). I bought a few suits from there a month or so ago, and was happy with them - at the cheap end the discount isn't that much over the High Street stores, but it's pot luck what stock they have, and I managed to get a nice suit for about half the High Street price. Tk maxx is also another good option, but again, it's pot luck what stock they have on any given day.
Also, the suits from H&C are unfinished, and they don't offer tailoring themselves. However, the bloke at the drycleaners on the west side of the ladder near Seymour Road (completely forgotten the name of the shop sorry) is also a tailor who does alterations and did an excellent job of the hems on mine for the princely sum of £6 per pair.
Ah, that is the one! Thank you. Yes, a friend seemed very pleased with what he'd managed to pick up there.
What does 'unifinished' mean in this case?
Rather pricey for the quality imo.
Has he not tried Wood Green M & S? Outlet prices so even better value.
Get in there now before they turn it into a pop-up organic falafel market ;)
The suits I saw for sale in H&C were good value for thread count, it's important to compare apples, etc. Price is only one aspect, thread count is important for wear - go for 110 and over for wool, the suit will last longer, feel better when on and wear better over time. Traditional suits may also have semi-canvas inserts in the jacket to help retain shape, these don't. The trousers are unhemmed as you should also get them adjusted to fit, nothing worse then ankle swingers!
I also always make the point of buying suits made from British wool although they may not be assembled here. Some of the new internet based companies are good value, you are fitted here and they make the suit overseas, I plan to try http://www.asuitthatfits.com/shop/index.php next. I've personally found TM Lewin products not to be well made or last long.
