Democracy Club is a new, independent network of volunteers who want to help internet-savvy transparency groups like
mySociety and
The Straight Choice to hold election candidates and representatives to account. Both of these organisations endorse this project.
They're currently asking for people to sign up, and thereby agree to occasionally take on tasks by email, such as gathering information on general election candidates or finding and sharing election leaflets, to help build awesome sites that will make the next general election the most transparent ever.
It's aimed at individuals but I thought it would be great if we could collaborate as Harringay Online to provide this information. So I've signed up as Harringay Online and dropped them a short email. (I hope they accept). I've added HoL for both Tottenham and Hornsey Constituencies.
I think it's just started. Right now they've recruited 83 volunteers in 71 constituencies (out of a total 646).
The
Straight Choice site's an interesting one in itself. They say:
Election leaflets are one of the main weapons in the fight for votes in the UK. They are targeted, effective and sometimes very bitter. We need your help to photograph and map them so we can keep an eye on what the parties are up to, and try to keep them honest.
