Deafening music on the Ladder
I called Haringey Council Environmental Services but that was a complete and utter waste of time. There is no 24-hour call-out for noise abatement – there's not even a 24-hour phone number any longer, you have to go through council switchboard – and there's no one on duty now until 8am.
So I called the police on 101, which I didn't want to do because they've got better things to do. But they were very gracious – I guess they're used to people calling about noise complaints if the council can't help.
The music's still playing though!

I heard this at about 10pm and couldn't gather where it was coming from, unbelievable if they are not helping on the out of hours number at a weekend I have had to use it many, many times. We always find when the sun comes out so does lots of noise, very unfair when you have a young family, bad sleeper or like my Son starts work very early.
Please if you can join your local neighbourhood watch team, that's what I had to do in the end, gets you knowing the council reps etc.

We're in Duckett Road and we were were kept awake too, it was very very annoying, another sleepless night. I agree - the council noise abatement system is useless. I couldn't tell where the noise was coming from, but it seemed to be the Wightman road area.

We are regularly woken in the early hours by parties at 136 Falkland Road where we have been told there are 12 people living.

The best thing to do is keep a diary for a couple of weeks as to the times and duration of any disturbance. This will strengthen the hand of the noise team. If any other neighbours can do the same, them so much the better. Contact me if you're not satisfied with the service.

We could hear it on Falkland Road, and therefore I went out at 6:00 am to try to find where it was coming from. I was unable to track it down, but was able to hear it as far away as Sydney Road.
From past experience it can be quite difficult to identify a house from the street where noise is coming from, if the source is at the back or in the garden.
If anyone living nearby is able to help, therefore it would be much appreciated if they could call the noise team via the main switchboard on 020 8490 0000. I suggest emailing Cllr Nilgun Canver, the "cabinet" councillor whose Environment remit includes the noise team. Nilgun's own home is in the Ladder, so she may have heard this noise. nilgun.canver@haringey.gov.uk
I assume - or at least hope - that a few councillors still realise that the Noise Team is an essential and valued service. Also that it should not have been cut. But of course, not making cuts in Council services depends on having the money to pay for those services.
The people now answering Haringey's out of hours switchboard are no longer in Haringey. The last time I rang out-of-hours the woman who answered promised I'd get a call back. But she didn't take my phone number. This is called "efficiency savings".

What I don't understand is why more people don't complain? It seems dozens (maybe more) people were woken up this morning, but both the environmental services and the police on 101 said we were the only callers to bring it to their attention. I imagine if a dozen families had made the call, the police would have gotten involved pretty damn quickly.
If no-one complains, the people having these parties and creating this noise have no reason whatsoever to stop making noise or consider their neighbours. We need a bit more community support, I feel. Make your voices heard. There are more of us.

You're right. I guess I was hoping people near to the noise would complain. As I didn't know where the noise was coming from, not even the road, I felt that I couldn't make a specific complaint.

Exactly, Rory.
And especially 318 days before the London Borough Elections. These last few months are almost the only time when residents have really effective leverage with local councillors. A simple question to ask potential candidates who want your vote: "Whichever party or parties are in power in Government and/or locally, will you be protesting publicly and strongly about cuts which impact on essential services?"
Another important reason to make a complaint is to ensure there's a record when various establishments apply for renewal of licences or leases. Including pubs, clubs, restaurants; and community centres. Also bodies which hire parks for music etc. Which makes it important to follow-up by confirming that your complaint has been recorded. Or a simple email which says you complained about 'x' noise from 'y; premises on date/time.
Don't be silent victims.

I've now called 101 and let them know how far away the noise could be heard. The reference is chs 5124 reported 7/7/2013. If there's a repetition and you quote it, that may lead to its being given greater priority.

There was a party on Mattison Rd at the Green Lanes end playing amplified techno (apparently 'rolling Italian Tech House' according to partner who is knows these things!) on Saturday night too.
Could you have heard that one all the way up near you? Sounds like Justine heard ours... It actually couldn't be heard that much from the street but from the back garden it was loouud even with windows shut.
But anyway, we had heard a few people yelling at them to turn off the music but they either didn't hear or didn't care so we actually did report it to the council ... and actually they were really good.
Called at 2:08am to 02083483148 (after hours number) got through on the switchboard, someone took my details down. At 2:36am two guys from the council came by to find out where the sound was coming from. Then the music stopped a bit after that so we were pretty happy with that outcome.
Just saying it is worth reporting.

Our neighbours rang the noise team on Saturday night to complain about the deafening party accross the garden. The team warned of the delay due to a large volume of calls but came over about an hour later, checked for the source and 2 minutes later the silence prevailed. I was rather impressed.
