Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

David Lammy has put his hat in the ring for the Labour Mayoral nomination alongside Christian Wolmar. See Guardian article here. He will step down as Tottenham MP if selected. I don't think that will happen but watch the bunfight over his very safe seat if it does.

It would be great if Lammy won the nomination as we would get rid of a useless jobsworth who would go on to lose the mayorality and have to settle for a highly paid sinecure to make it look like a diversity success. Something in the BBC maybe?

He just received an endorsement on twitter from Andy Burnham. No doubt they (Labour politicians) will try to starve Christian Wolmar's campaign of publicity.

Ugggh. A career politician who advocates whacking kids.
If he does as much for Londoners as he has done for the the people of Tottenham we are really in trouble. Interested to see in tonight's Evening Standard article it makes reference to his "comfortable Tottenham family home". Last time I looked, Stroud Green wasn't in Tottenham,!

Blimey you lot really hate David. He's not all that bad is he ?

I used to have a lot of sympathy for him until his disastrous canvassing in St Ann's earlier this year.

Think you nailed it there James. Perhaps he and Ed Milibean could use that as a campaign slogan. 'He's not all that bad, is he?' Be still my beating heart.....

Hear, hear, Karen, on both counts.

Sharon, I thought whacking kids was his only saving grace, no?

And so it goes. A good, solid, progressive (but not well-known) candidate will get elbowed out of the limelight by a stolid party hack. Then the Tories will drag some ghastly "character" out of the airing cupboard and they'll have at it. London loses. Again.

Other, less jaundiced views are available.

Time to give Christian Wolmar's campaign another £20.

David Lammy is everything  that is wrong with British politics, a career YES man.  London mayor candidates needs to be strong, so whether you like Livingston or johnson  or not at least they stick to their believes. David would roll over to any government of the day. We therefore need to think where he can do the least damage and unfortunately that is staying as Tottenham's MP is maybe the best solution . Unless we can have him deselected .
