Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Crouch Enders Tessa Cook and Saasha Celestial-One have launched a free app. which connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses to exchange their surplus edible food. Think food nearing its sell-by date in local stores. Spare vegetables from the allotment. Cupcakes from an amateur baker. The groceries in your fridge when you go away.

Tessa is a farmer’s daughter who effectively saw a third of her family’s hard work discarded every day, while Saasha is the daughter of Iowa hippies and an avid freecycler who is equally passionate about cutting waste.

To make food available, users open the app, add the item with a photo, description, price (if applicable), and when it’s available for pick-up. The app then provides the current location which can be over-ridden if users prefer to exchange in a public place.

To access food, users browse the menu of available items, request what they want and arrange a pick-up via private messaging.

I've downloaded the app and had a quick look. It seems that it's mainly been Crouch Enders who have signed up so far - but there is an entry from our very own Harringay Local Store.

OLIO is free to download on iPhone from early July 2015 and will be available for Android later this summer.
