Is it the really the UK’s biggest community arts festival, though? Is this actually factual?
Brockley Max would appear to be a much larger community arts festival. Is this from the same source that claims that Hornsey is the UK’s oldest “village”?
Sounds like copywriter speak to me.
Never heard of 'Brockley Max '. I see it is funded by Lewsiham.
The Crouch End Festival is the biggest 'independent' community arts festival, according to Haringey Council, who do not fund us. If they did, we wouldn't be independent.
The Association of Festival Organisers called it 'the most efficiently run festival they know" given it gets no funding.
But who really cares, it's not about size but social impact. The enjoyment it brings to the people.
Maybe you'd like to volunteer to help?
Except Brockley Max isn’t funded by Lewisham Council. It’s funded in the same way as CEF, by local businesses, grants etc. It’s just bigger. Now in it’s 24th year.

The Crouch End Festival is marvellous, I’m not knocking that, it’s just not the UK’s biggest community festival, independent or otherwise.
And don’t get me started on the Glastonbury Festival (or to give it its full name, the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts) which is also independent and bloody massive.
Useful to know. But it's all about marketing. British Airways isn't the world favourite airline. How much does Lewisham give them?
Hornsey is, factually London's oldest village - recorded in the Book of Middlesex. Why are you so negative and like to pull things apart? And why hide behind a fake name. Pretty sick to use that one too. Doesn't the world have enough negativity in it? That's why we have wars, climate change and a decaying society. A small number of us are using our time to make better society, not troll comments, to make people feel better not try and tear people down to play judge and jury. Instead of making negative comments, spend the time helping people. One reason people don't like volunteering anymore is that social media just attacks them. There's no positive outcome of using social media to criticise. Sorry have to go, we have a free kids event to do.
Blimey - a lot to unpick here!
No one is putting anyone down here - there is due praise given to the Crouch End Festival. The post only refers to the “UK’s biggest festival” claim. I’ve seen it publicised as this each year and my curiosity finally got the better of me, a quick google search later and it appears that it isn’t.
No criticism of the volunteers, no criticism of the festival itself, just questioning the validity of the claim.
Not sure why my screen persona is sick, unless Princess Diana is judged solely on how she died rather than all the good she did. In many ways she was the ultimate volunteer (albeit tax payer funded!). Certainly don’t think me choosing that started any wars, as you say, nor affected climate change or the degradation of society.
Finally the assumption that I would not, myself, be involved in any charitable or voluntary activities because I questioned some inaccurate promotional claims is a very odd (and wholly incorrect) assumption to make.
Maybe you should change your equally anonymous screen name to Mother Theresa after that rant!
See you at the Festival x
