Thanks for the link Cara. It's really shocking looking at the list of fatalities on such familiar streets - I remember quite a few of them from the time (particualrly the recent fatalities on Green Lanes) but still sobering to see them all grouped together, and to see some on quieter roads. I hope the speed bumps on the ladder would make the sort of fatalities that took place before they were in place less likely.
Islington have just introduced a 20 mph across the borough but the police aren't enforcing it - and it hasn't yet made much difference to the speed levels (from my experience).

Yes, I find in Islington that the cars disregard the 20 mph limit by putting their foot down in the maddest, stupidest places (to overtake a bike going at... approx. 18 miles per hour...)

You would hope that seeing it in such detail, and in such a timely way could influence the powers that plan road safety measures, but sadly, I suspect they have had access to this information long before we have and haven't acted on it.
People power however...
It is startling to see it all, but hopefully it will make more people, more determined to a) make a difference and lobby the relevant parties to make change happen and b) consider their own driving and road use.

Istanbul is busier, but that road-crossing technique usually works there (and indeed in large swathes of the world). There's an expectation in the crazy-crazy-traffic cities that you do have to keep your foot on the brake pedal, which people in London don't have, unfortunately.

That's true, it always happens to me at the turning of Seymour, a man with a tiny baby stepped out in front of me the other day. I stopped well in time as I was turning, so going slow anyway, but he had the nerve to mutter and moan at me when he'd just stepped out without looking - and with a baby in his arms.
You would hope that at junctions people are going slower if turning, but in London traffic on the straights and lights, there is that foot to the floor, if you're not fast you're last mentality.
And I've lost count of the amount of cyclists I've shouted at in the last few weeks on Green Lanes, at the junction with the Salisbury, who think that red lights don't apply to them and carry on through, leaving us pedestrians to dodge them. Wait until their impatience and ignorance of red lights lands them under a bus and then maybe they will pay attention to the highway code, it really does drive me mad. Harsh though it may be, I have absolutely no sympathy for cyclists knocked off as a result of this, the rules are there to protect everyone.
