Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

So CQC came round to our practice last week and yes we did very well but they were a joke- i was actually on holiday but everyone I have spoken to from receptionist, Gp, nurse have of all come out with the same

they were rude firstly- there is never any need or excuse for that- infact they were so off with the receptionist (who didnt know who the person was), that she assumed that they had mental health problems

They spent all day at the surgery, as we had expected. They rattled off 64questions to three of the Gp partners, but the CQC DR obviously was a few brain cells short, and couldnt understand the answers( probably not even the questions he was reading off his sheet) so had to write the answers all down probatium As the Gps said, there ws no way they would have let the CQC dr work at the practice as he wasnt upto it

The other inspectors were as bad wanting to see check lists to show we had ticked the check lists- They did the finger test to check for any sign of dust anywhere on door tops inside lamps etc. The nurse was also rude

Since when has dust been a problem, tell me whose house doesnt have dust in it-i KNOW EVEN IF I DUST etc the day before, there is dust around the following day

tHERE ARE SO MANY GERMS around Gp surgeries with so many sickly patients coming in coughing/spluttering etc- you just dont see those germs- But they are still better than all the germs you get on tubes etc

It seems that lot of practices are complaining as it is totally a tick box exercise but unfortunately it has absolutely no reflection on a gp practice and how they really function. Infact the more rubbish practices will probably do better as they wont be so bothered about seeing and helping out patients, so they will have plenty of time to get the paperwork and tick boxes up to date. Well a good practice like ours in kentish town is a really good practice in as much as all the gps are really good, unlike quite a few in other places. And they genuinely really care about their patients etc- But yes we have the usual problems as a massive shortage of appts and staff. But it means they are working flat out, working long hours. And then on top of that are all the rubbish CQC make they show and do. Its such a waste of time, money, stress. So the GPS in my practice  are feeling really low now its over, as they feel they had idiots reviewing them who didnt have a clue and would have had no idea whether they were any good or not.

And these are the idiots who have so so much power to just close a service, It is these same idiots tat GPs have to pay about £8K /year to join(which is compulsory) which is unvetted itself it seems- And they are planning to put the price of joining upto 25k/year within 5years. That is stupid amounts of money and that money would go so far in helping patients be refered for treatment etc. When we are all so strapped for cash

You can make a complaint if they were really that bad. Like you say, there's no excuse for rudeness in any walk of life.

These organisations have to find things wrong to justify their existence, demoralisation is the result. Unfortunately it is not uncommon to have these box-ticking 'planks' sent around with little people skills or true experience. I read that the CQC was introduced in 2009 when the government in power at the time was at its peak in creating box-ticking mass employment when the streets were awash with hi-vis jackets and clipboards.

The surgery should write a strong letter of complaint to the head of the organisation and to the health secretary.

A long time ago, I worked in an office that was open to OF__M scrutiny, there were three filing cabinets along the walls containing documents of the entire job description. I was told in no uncertain terms that if an auditor asked me a question I was to point to the cabinets (air-hostess style) and say; 'all of the information you require is over there, over there, and over there'.

Thanks for the replies, and reading my long post

yes we will be complaining as have many surgeries & as we are a large teaching practice with a pretty good reputation we will have a bit of clout, unlike some of the smaller surgeries. Many surgeries are complaining as these people have so much power to close services etc, they are who the general public look to for guidance. yet they are run by idiots, and as all 7 of our Gp partners said, none of them would have been allowed to work in our practice. They certainly werent fit for practice which makes it a very sick joke which is costing the nhs thousands of pounds and lowering morale of already very overstretched NHS staff. Yes it will probably be revamped at some point in the near future and that will cost another few million probably

Interestingly the BMA has it as their  headline this week in their newletter. You need to be  Dr to access the link and as Im a nurse, i have instead taken pics of the article to give an idea

Here are pics of the BMA article
