Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello

I am hoping someone can answer this so I can avoid ringing the council and being kept on hold for ages.

I have moved out of my flat, informed the council tax department online (I use the online council tax payment account) and I was very efficiently informed that they now owed me £113 which was a nice surprise. And credit where credit is due, the whole process online was very smooth and easy.

However the account statement and FAQs on the website provides no information about how I can reclaim this money that the council owe me. It hasn't turned up in the account I paid the council tax from yet so I assume I need to do something to get it back.

Is there a way to do this without ringing the council?

Thanks all!

Hi Ella

I did the very same thing a few months ago.  They sent me a cheque to my new address.  I would try calling them to sort it out.   I did so to set up the new account and a very helpful woman picked up after a couple of rings and sorted it all out.  Amazing but true.

I did the same thing via email. When I emailed to closed my account they said I was due a refund, I replied with my forwarding address and a few weeks later a cheque turned up.  I have emailed them a few times and they generally get back to you with in a day or two if you don't want to phone.

Great!

I'll keep an eye out for the cheque then.

thanks for the help.

Hiya, if you're moving within the borough you can also get the council to transfer the amount they owe you and offset it against your new bill
