Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

North Tyneside Council has agreed to allow partners working in health, the police and community and voluntary groups to contribute to monthly discussions.

The authority is also planning to bring in the private sector and residents representing older and younger people.

Mayor John Harrison said the move would enrich the decision-making process and make the cabinet’s work more transparent.

Chief executive Andrew Kerr said: ‘This is a unique situation in English local government. There is no other cabinet I know which has partners sitting at the cabinet table when they discuss issues. It allows us to engage with our partners and engage better with our communities.’

The new representatives will not however have decision-making or voting powers.
