Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

With housing costs now at preposterous levels in Harringay, particularly on the ladder, does anyone have any thoughts as to how this issue may be tackled. It is now no exaggeration to say that we are in the midst of a housing crisis with only the most affluent being able to afford to live in the area. This, coupled with the introduction of the benefit cap pilot in Haringey, is having a terrible effect on individuals, and particularly families, in the area.

One thing we could do for a start is try to halt the money being spent on doing up Green Lanes.  This is a terrible idea for us that live in the area as it is only going to lead to more gentrification and higher housing costs for us all. My feeling is that this is being pushed by the Traders on Green Lanes and the impact on rents and house prices has not been considered. I see the benefits for the Traders but see little benefits for us that live here.

All this is going hand on hand with the continued gentrification and change in social make up of the area that is also pushing up housing costs.

It's the million dollar question, but any ideas?

Let's hope that there will be a flood of properties coming on to the housing market. It's a bit early to say yet :)

Having a mass sleep out demo, I guess this Gov is trying to make London as attractive as possible to foriegn investers, projected profits for them, so increase in rents be it social housing, cracking down on squating by making it illegal to squat non-commercial buildings, do you think this may be a manipulation to screw as much money as poss out of population, therefore having to work more and less time to scrutinise the corrupt practices of Self-servative governments. Forget the no vote, vote for the alternative, the no vote is what got us the Condem, Eaton, elitists, self-serveatives, just saying!

Plan is to cram in as many residents into Harringay as possible and then sell public assets and services such as NHS, sell off police stations, fire stations, I guess they consider that over populating an area and cutting the emergency and social services is a good idea, thats the kind of Goverment we have at the moment.

Protest! Monday 15th July 6.30pm Civic Centre, High Road, Protest!

It may be the other way round sell off public assets and social services and then cram in as many residents as possible or both at the same time.

Well said. When I lived there my father failed (duh) to buy our house in Frobisher for £450 when he was earning £600 a year! He said it was too expensive.............................................

Exclusion; all is exclusion.

If you haven't yet come across it, the website MousePrice shows current property prices based on up-to-date Land Registry data. It also has an interesting colour coded "heat" map showing prices.
