I need two chimneys stacks taking down on the back of my house I have been quoted £4.5k for work scaffolding and removal of bricks. Is this expensive? I have no idea why this job should cost
any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi Guy. If it's removing the just stacks - i.e. just the parts above the roof - capping off the cavity and repairing the roof and no structural work then that's on the higher side of normal. But would depend on how difficult access is, how high the stacks are etc. Get a couple more quotes to check it out.
FYI - if you live in conservation area across the railway or in Noel Park you'll need planning consent. If it needs any structural work, or your taking it out below the roof you'll need building control application. If either is shared with your neighbour you should get a party wall award drawn up.
Thanks Costa
il get some more quotes fir the job one of the stacks is big and the other quite small but neither on a party wall.
thanks fir the advice
Would it not be easier just to have them capped off at a tenth of the price?. Sometimes, removing stacks can alter the value of a house especially if a potential new owner likes a stove or open fire, I can only presume they are old cooker flues or suchlike.
Thanks Martin
one is unsupported so has to come out and the other is damaged and letting in a lot of water.
Thanks fir the advice
Guy
