Copper Piping stolen on Wightman road - Saturday night 31st March
Last night vandals stole the copper piping from our house that connects our gas supply. We have managed to have it replaces, but at great expense and have reported it to the police. The crazy thing is that is was probably only worth a couple of quid but it has cost us a hundred times more to replace, not to mention the inconvenience! Has this happened to anyone else?

We are living on Wightman Road. ** Exactly two months ago the thing like this happened to us.
This should be a community alert to start covering and securing their copper gas and water pippes as the thieves
have absolutely no mercy to this damages which they are causing.
A few meters of pippes for them is not even worth than £50 and the owners have spending more than £500.
Whoever read this I can only say - Go out of your house right now and check your copper pippes and cover them. You will not have any issues tomorrow when you discover that your gas pippes disappear.

We built a wooden construction around the pipe so it does not look like a gaspipe.

Becky, yes this has been happening to others. See here. You would think the National Grid were responsible for replacing this and at their cost. Did your insurance cover this?
It appears to be happening all over the country. News articles;
1. Bungalow explodes after copper pipe theft. The implication here is to turn off your gas supply before you go on holiday.
2. Copper pipe theft causes gas leak (Scotland)

A few months ago some middle aged blokes were rummaging through a skip taking away scrap metal where I told them in no certain certains come anywhere near my home and there will be trouble where they made out that that they didn't understand.
A week ago I told a young boy not to come to a few homes on my road.
A few nights ago two young blokes on either side of my road were looking in peoples front gardens in where they were given scrap metal by a couple on my road who should of known better.

We have just received a cheque from our insurers that covers most of the cost of having the new pipes fitted, though we did have to pay the excess. I am concerned about it happening again though.
