Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi folks!  Music on the Ladder's next event will be Come and Sing "The Mikado" on Saturday, 8 June.  This event will kick off St Paul's Harringay's celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the dedication of the new church building.  The Mikado is one of the most well-known works by the 19th century operettists Gilbert & Sullivan and it really is a lot of fun.

The idea of the Come and Sing is that everyone turns up in the afternoon to rehearse the work and then we put on a performance for a (hopefully) enthusiastic audience in the evening - no commitment to loads of rehearsals, just an opportunity to have a good sing and a good laugh while doing so.  The rehearsals will start at 1pm, in the church (on Wightman Road, near Harringay Station) and the performance will be at 7pm, also in the church.  It is £10 for singers, £5 for audience, all payments taken on the door.  The proceeds go to church funds.

We've got a stellar cast of principals (see below), but we need a chorus to support them. If you would like to sing, all you need to do is drop us a line at musicontheladder@gmail.com and let us know what voice part you think you are - no need for previous experience, the aim of the game is to have fun.

We recently had an audition process for the main parts, and that gave us the following cast (many of whom are fairly local):

Nanki-Poo - Anthony Harbottle

Ko-Ko - Michael Baker

Pooh Bah - Will O'Brien

Pish Tush - Steve Matthews

The Mikado - Maurice Cheng

Yum-Yum - Clare Young

Pitti-Sing - Fiona Matthews

Peep-Bo - Louisa Livermore

Katisha - Hannah Leonard

The musical director is David Went (who has joined us for previous Come and Sing events), the accompanist will be Matthew Butt (a promising young pianist and composer who has a concerto for two double reeds to his name) and yours truly will be the director (or rather, given that it is a concert performance, will prod and poke people in the right general direction occasionally).

We'll have refreshments available to singers throughout the day at our "Angel Cafe" in the church hall and we'll also have refreshments after the performance.

Any questions, give me a shout either on here or by e-mailing musicontheladder@gmail.com - we'd love to see loads of you there to help us start these important celebrations!

Just  a little reminder that there are now only five sleeps to go until Come and Sing The Mikado - if you'd like to sing and you've not signed up yet, there's still time!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to this event yesterday. The church was packed, we had over a hundred people in there for the performance (bearing in mind there are only 110 seats) and over 30 of them were the singers.  We'll be doing another Come and Sing event in the Autumn (suggestions for works we could attempt are very welcome), but in the meantime, we have a choral concert coming up on 20 July - I'll post all the details on HoL shortly.
