After coming last in the Bromborough village talent show on the recorder at age 9, Jenny decided to give up her dream of becoming a professional recorder player and try the saxophone instead. Luckily, she was much better at that and now lives and works in London as a professional actor and musician.
She left rural Cheshire in 2013 to attend the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and has recently appeared in the ‘Cilla - The Musical’ UK tour.
Jenny was taught by some of the industry’s leading professionals, including BBC Big Band’s Howard McGill, and regularly performs with groups such as the South London Jazz Orchestra and all-female rock n’roll band, The Daisy Chains.
It was her life-long love of jazz that inspired her to create The Jenny Murphy Jazz Group, influenced by crooners like Sinatra, virtuosos like Charlie Parker and yes, the sax solo in Careless Whisper.
With a unique sax-vocal set, the Jenny Murphy Jazz Group are prefect for a laid-back lounge set, or a more interactive cabaret-style show to suit any venue, both spanning the early 1920s to modern classics with a vintage twist.

Listen and be wow'ed by the emerging talent in the room! A regular monthly event for emerging & experienced musicians to rehearse, jam and hang out together in good company and rehearse new material with jazz pianist Noah Stoneman at Karamel, held on the third Wednesday of the month.
Noah Stoneman was a finalist in the recent BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year. He is also a member of the band of trumpeter Alexandra Ridout. Youth, maturity and energy. As well as leading his own trio, he is a member of the group Zenel, picked as a group to watch for 2018 by Jazzwise Magazine.

Tomorrow's Warriors presents Morgan Wallace

Award-winning hothouse Tomorrow's Warriors presents the next generation of Jazz musicians supported through their music development programme. An outstanding night in the company of young emerging artists and musicians.
Morgan Wallace is a young saxophonist and composer, originally from South London. Growing up in Devon, she took up the clarinet aged eight, moving on to the saxophone at fourteen, and went on to play in Roz Harding's group the Jambassadors. As a participant on the acclaimed Young Artist Development Programme at Tomorrow’s Warriors, she learnt under the mentorship of Binker Golding, Alex Davis and others. Her influences include saxophonists Ornette Coleman and Wayne Shorter, but she has also been inspired by Brad Meldhau, Jeff Buckley and Miles Davis. This year she takes up her place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire to further her studies of jazz.

We are delighted to welcome the stunningly talented singer-songwriter Odette Adams and her band.
After a very successful autumn 2019 tour, Odette Adams is working hard to craft her second album, ‘Longing To Know And Laughing’. The title track is an exciting, catchy number and is Odette’s jazziest offering so far. It has been going down very well with audiences and sets the tone for the album overall. Gigs this year are collaborative and Odette is working with excellent musicians who infuse sounds from across the world with her own. They also share her passion for life and joy, which is critical for Odette as she wants her shows to absolutely crackle with positive energy… and they do!

Tomorrow's Warriors presents Queen Colobus

Queen Colobus is a 4-piece band led by alto saxophonist and vocalist, Beth Hopkins. Having played together in different bands in Southampton, they found that they liked making weird sounds at each other, with or without instruments, and formed a musical alliance within the London jazz scene. Their music is influenced by jazz, indie and neo-soul. Beth’s compositions are fuelled by frustration at the things that aren’t generally talked about in music such as the diet industry, having no voice and mental health issues. The name comes from a species of Old World monkey, which reflects their wise and playful nature.

Torus, an established modern jazz quartet who have been touring since the 1980s, bring their unique and retrospective music to Karamel. Compromising Gary Plumley (saxophones), Jonathan Gee (piano), Mick Sexton (bass) and Trevor Taylor (drums), the group reformed to celebrate the music of the period drawn from Steps Ahead, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea. A night full of funky, surprising and reminiscent tunes.

Lauren Lucille shares her love and life lessons and stories through a musical fusion of folk/jazz/pop. She has a sassy, soulful and versatile voice. Born in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, Lauren was surrounded by music from an early age. Her original musical inspiration came from her parents, in particular the musical family of her mother, renowned jazz vocalist Sharny Russell. She could often be found at her mother’s gigs, learning how to swing before she even knew what swing was. Over the last 10 years, artists such as Kurt Elling, Tierny Sutton, Gian Slater, Sara Serpa, Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap and Ani Difranco have all had a large influence on the way Lauren writes and performs music.
Lauren’s songwriting started at the age of ten, and through her teens, Lauren was writing folk and pop songs on guitar and piano. She is now acknowledged by her peers as a great composer and performer and was twice a finalist in the QMusic Awards for two of her jazz compositions. James Morrison the great Australian trumpet player added one of Lauren’s compositions to his ‘best of jazz’ list for QANTAS international and national inflight entertainment! She is blessed with a magnificent voice, a sound grasp of harmony and sophisticated rhythmic sense.

Originally from Italy Gaetano Di Giacomo studied drums and percussion in Bologna before obtaining a degree in Drums and Music Performance from Trinity College after moving to the UK.
In the early part of his career Gaetano cut his teeth working on the jazz and pop scene traveling extensively and performing at festivals and venues in Italy, UK, Japan, Finland, USA, France, Norway, Denmark.
It wasn't long before Gaetano attracted the attention of the UK jazz scene's top players such as James Pearson, Nigel Price, Tony Kofi, Tom Farmer, Marco Marconi, Misha Abbado, Gilad Atzmon, Ross Stanley, Adam King, Roberto Manzin, Brandon Allen, Davide Mantovani to name just a few. Di Giacomo has performed in a plethora of prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s, 606 Club, Jazz Cafe, Pizza Express, The Forge, The Vortex, The Barga Jazz club Italy, The Arlati Jazz Club Italy.

UBUNYE (‘one-ness’) unites singers from Kwa Zulu Natal in South Africa with musicians from Leeds in an inspirational blend of styles and cultures. High energy beats and traditional African vocal sounds combine with jazz and gospel and morph into more contemporary styles. At times it’s energetic and big at other times it’s delicate and quiet. Ubunye is a vibrant seven piece Afro Jazz/dance band based in the UK, featuring three vocalists from Kwa Zulu Natal in South Africa and a four piece rhythm section. The music is an inspirational blend of jazz, Isigqi - traditional Zulu music - and Afro-pop. High energy African beats and traditional sounds morph into more contemporary musical styles.
Telling stories of human struggles with themes of universal resonance, Ubunye have recently completed a successful tour across the North of England including sell-out shows at jazz clubs and festivals.
