Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following his failure to be reselected by the St Ann's Labour party Cllr Haley this afternoon announced his decision to cross the floor and join the Lib Dems.

I imagine that we can therefore expect imminently an announcement that he'll be standing with a different shirt on at the next elections.

I've been told that there's been intense discussion between the centre and the local party about this move.

I never noticed any politics with Brian, or principles. He was simply somebody who wanted to be a councillor. He joined the Labour party to do this. Now that he can't be a councillor through the Labour party, he's joined the Lib Dems. He's chosen the party with the best chance of electing him back on the council. Or so he thinks. They probably don't care much. They have no black councillors and must be a bit embarrassed about that, so they've taken him for political reasons and held their noses.

My Granddad was in the Socialist Party of Great Britain. He had to pass a written test before they let him join. He had to prove to them that his values were the right ones. All Brian did was fill in a form. Then he bullied his way into a safe seat and neglected it.
A Tale of Two Journeys:

From Socialist Party of GB to Labour to New Labour in two generations.
From New Labour to Lib Dems in two months/weeks/days/minutes.

1st Prize to Brian, I think, for perspicacity and action.
How very weird to be sneered at by somebody I've never met, for my politics.

My granddad would have been proud of me. I'm an active member of a trade union, I'm a teacher and a political activist.

I might have considered joining the SPGB but the Small Party of Good Boys is much smaller than when my granddad was a member (and my aunt, in fact, as late as the sixties, before she joined the IMG,) but they have very little, if any, presence in St Ann's ward and if there are any around, in all probability they couldn't be described as 'boys.' Anyway it's not about who you join, it's about how you behave and what values you have.
Julie, you should check out some of OAE's previous posts. I don't think he's sneering at all.
That 'new Labour' always offends me, John. It's an empty term politically and implies a sell out, like Haley, who will join anybody if he thinks there's something in it for him. It doesn't describe me!
My granddad would have been proud of me
as Mandy said of Herb Morrison.
SPINELESS DEVIL , he is rubbish for labour and leopards dont change their spots
stuart.
thats a good cliche. i wish i could think of a good cliche but i can't. makes my blood boil to think of it.
I'd offer to help, James. But we're not on the same page with this one.
Alan re: cliche.
Lets not go down that road.
No, James, that's deja vu all over again going forward.
Maybe we should ask cllr haley. That would put the cat amongst the pigeons.
