Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Cllr Gideon Bull Reinstated Today. Catherine West's stance on this issue.
Today Labour councillor Gideon Bull is reinstated to the Labour Party having been suspended for 3 months as a result of speaking against the closure of day care centres in the borough for those suffering from altzheimers and autism. I wanted to know where our MP stood on this matter and so emailed her asking:
“Can you let voters in the borough know if you support the council and their suspension of Gideon Bull or whether you feel their action was unjustified and that Cllr. Bull should be reinstated?”
I received a reply but the question itself was not answered. I wrote again. I received a reply but the question was not answered. I wrote again. (Perhaps you can detect a pattern here.) In all I wrote 7 times. I felt was reasonable to know what our representative in parliament felt about this issue. I received three replies but my question remained unanswered. Ultimately my last two emails received no reply.
I am none the wiser on what our MP thinks of this issue.

the council and their suspension of Gideon Bull
Cllr Bull was not suspended by "the council" (i.e. by the Council's Standard's Committee—indeed I think Standards no longer has the power to suspend).
Cllr. Bull was suspended by the Council Majority (Labour) Group, from the Council Majority (Labour) Group.
He was accused by their Whip of uncomradely behaviour, although that formula is so vague, it could mean anything you want it to mean. It is pretty much a working definition of trumped-up charge.
Meanwhile, the petition launched in support of Gideon Bull and his advocacy for vulnerable adults, reached more than 16,000 in the United Kingdom (83,000 overall).
I was waiting in the Council Chamber to ask a question of the Cabinet when Cllr. Bull spoke. I remember thinking at the time that he spoke well. While his conduct earned the ire of the local Labour Party Council Group, his conduct as an elected Councillor was beyond reproach.
The decision by the Majority Group to suspend Cllr. Bull was taken by a majority vote of that Group. It was a stain on their reputation and it was a sad day for local democracy.
