Great - glad it worked out.

A wee update on a couple of good, but expensive, and perhaps rather obvious Chinese Restaurants I've eaten at in the past few weeks.

Last month I had dim sum at an old favourite of mine Yauatcha. The bill for the two of us was about £60. Recommended. On Sunday, I finally got round to trying the Royal China Club on Baker Street. I have to say I was impressed. Nearly every dish was very good. Only the crispy pork belly failed to impress. From my one visit, highly recommended. Bill for the two of us for dim sum and a couple of mains £85.

Neither restaurant is cheap, but both are worth what you pay.

Both are very good. We miss going to Yauatcha as they do not provide high chairs (for a good reason I guess), however Royal China Club does.

Royal China Club is really excellent and well worth the higher prices, in my opinion.  Had a lovely dim sum lunch there a couple of weeks ago.  (Don't confuse RCC with the branch of Royal China a couple of doors down on Baker St.)  I find that Yauatcha dim sum don't taste as good as they look - but do recommend their macarons from the patisserie by the front door if you want an expensive treat.  Hakkasan is the better bet for food quality but I don't go there any more after some particularly obnoxious service a few years ago.

Another good, if more traditional, place for dim sum is Pearl Liang in the modern development by the canal at Paddington.

Agree in general that decent Chinese isn't worth thinking about in this part of London though.  I have tried Yipin China once and it was worth a return visit to explore more but I just haven't got around to it.

One of my favourite and not too far is Yipin China in Angel. It was reccomended to me by a Taiwanese friend and since I've tried it I often bring my guests if they ask for a good chinese. The food is from the region of Hunan and compared to the classic Chinese it's very hot, they love chilli and so do I! A little note, the menu is an artwork of photography! http://www.yipinchina.co.uk/

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me of this. I had a recommendation for this last week, but I hadn't heard of it before then. Sounds like it's one I have to give a try.

Yipin China is great and reasonably priced. The portions are enormous.

Definitely spicy though!
