Chicken Town agaaaaain
Chicken Town gets another puff piece, this time in the Guardian.
Nice idea, maybe, though I do want to visit the chicken farm to ask the birds what they think.
But it has no place in the frontage of Edwardian buildings on Tottenham Green.
How nice to get £300k in loans and grants from my Council Tax, and get all these advertorials (almost) to make sure its full of the right sort of people in the evenings to subsidise the slightly-less-fatloaded children's lunch menu.
I can think of other Old Fire Stations that become Arts Centres, or Community Centres, or nurseries. Fried-meat centres? Hmmm.

Nobody who kills chickens at a few weeks old can claim to be concerned about animal welfare. Halal meat is almost always stunned these days so is mainly targeted by Islamphobes masquerading as animal lovers. Please note: I am NOT accusing you of this in this instance at all.

'almost always' is not enough.
Of course UK reared and slaughtered birds, halal or not, will have had a much better life than most of what goes to the high-street child-stuffing joints where the birds lived and died in Thailand after 39 days in a box, arriving deep frozen many months if not years later.

THIS was Tottenham Green Market earlier today (Sunday). Much or most of the stalls sell ready-to-eat food. It was reasonably busy; it may be too soon to judge whether this proximate market will attract more or fewer customers to Chicken Town (left of photo; red doors) —click to enlarge

The twice we've went to go to Chicken town, a Monday evening and a Sunday evening they have been closed both times. Monday I kind of get but what eating establishment isn't open on a Sunday after 6pm?

I think the relative lack of commercial pressure is significant. I'm not sure that the Council appreciates how hard it is to start any new business, let alone a restaurant, from scratch.
The Tottenham Green Market may harm CT by drawing away any passing trade, or it may benefit CT by bringing more people to the area in general. Both businesses have been promoted by the Council.

One that states its opening hours on its website as opening only 12-6pm on Sunday

Its not uncommon for restaurants to close Sunday evening if they do lunchtime service and they expect things to be quiet on a Sunday evening. As you note Monday's not unexpected either, because it's another quiet night.
The very much missed, "The Lock" only opened for Sunday lunches, and closed in the evening and on Mondays. (San Marco, in north Tottenham, also close Mondays. Heck, they never even used to be open most of the rest of the week either!)
I would argue that, if Chicken Town really were under no commercial pressure at all then it would be open even on quiet nights like Sunday and Monday.

They have said somewhere that they are still training up staff and don't have enough people yet to open more hours. Employing local youth is part of their special brief.

James thanks for your list of places that also aren't open but I don't see how that helps. Maybe you don't expect a restaurant to be open on a Sunday evening but I think from my posit it is rather obvious that I do and after two attempts to visit the restaurant I doubt I'll be going a 3rd time.

Really?! I eat out all the time and don't think I know of one that does. We're obviously going to different establishments.

I eat out for pleasure so obviously avoid the places that are closed at dinner time. It's really that simple...now I know to avoid Chicken Town.
