No Justin, it's the bad and unhealthy food that is sold cheaply that you are comparing with.
Actually, no - I wouldn't dream of eating in those places. A packet of assorted Southern Fried Chicken in M&S costs less than £5.
Define expensive. To you, perhaps not? To the majority of Tottenham folk including those in jobs - the majority - then I reckon £12 IS a lot of money for three chicken legs and a few cut and fried vegetables. If they want to draw a 'new' audience, why not be upfront about it? Ditto the council. Totally agree with you about Botellon - the food was absolutely ghastly (bought in next-door Tesco and microwaved?). San Marco's is, mostly, a delight - though they have bad days too. Glad you are continuing to support Tottenham eateries :)
All the places Sarah's quoted are chains - so no, not just Crouch End. But I think it's about time we had some establishments to rival CE on our doorstep, don't you? I'm bored of having to leave my area for good food and I'm far from being alone in this. The markets have made a huge difference to quality of life in the area, and projects like this can only be the next step. I just hope the next one has better veggie options ;)
Can Tottenham - esp the established residents - yet rival Crouch Enders' disposal incomes?
Obviously yes in some cases, and maybe not in others. Like anywhere in London it's not composed of a single, homogenous group of people. There should be something for everyone.
Well, we have cheaper mortgages, gotta do something with the rest of our money!
This is a very fair point, and also a quite conscious decision for some of us. Well, that and the fact that Stokey doesn't have the tube...
This is Week Eight. I wonder what the stats are? Who is collecting them? Nobody at my school had even heard of them.
We're not all hostile, I think it's worth a debate about the funding of Chicken Town but ultimately Tottenham would benefit from new coffe shops/restaurants.
I agree.
I just don't understand why the political opponents of Clive, don't even bother to oppose his continual muck raking. I guess they must be feeling quite secure. But that's what makes me do, what you have before now called 'naughty things'.
