Did anyone else notice the state of Chestnuts Park yesterday? Rubbish everywhere. Am slightly concerned that haven't seem the park-keeper for a while - surely he's not been cut?
Have reported it to the council - maybe others could do the same?

Chestnuts Park depot is due to close with the cuts, I don't think it has happened so far though I'm not sure. Perhaps Councillors could let us know what is happening with public consultation on closing parks depots and cuts to the parks service because I don't remember seeing anything.
I've spoken to the Chestnuts park-keeper a few times in the past and he usually litter picks first thing in the morning, then he has to cut the grass on surrounding housing estates, so he's not in the park all day. But the bins are emptied by the 'parks hygeine' staff, who are running on depleted numbers (see other threads) so bins are overflowing pretty much everywhere so I've seen / heard. Overflowing bins = rubbish everywhere.
Meanwhile, if Chestnuts depot is closed we can expect the park to sink to the state it was in just a few years ago before it had on-site staff. If you (everyone) don't want this to happen, print out and get people to sign the Haringey Friends of Parks Forum petition to persuade the Council not to go ahead with these damaging cuts to the parks service.
I've signed the Haringey Council petition - you can do it online, click here
I guess in the meantime (until the Council is petitioned and changes its mind, or until a day further in the future when a Government gives the Councils more money again, so they can afford to give us tidy parks, care for older folks, childcare, etc) we're going to have to do a bit of litter-picking ourselves.
hi, this is Ceri, Chair of Friends of Chestnuts Park
We are also very concerned about the cutbacks to the parks service which are affecting Chestnuts Park. We've made such huge strides over the past few years with this park it feels terrible to go backwards. I'd urge everyone to sign the petition.
And, if you'd like to join the Friends group to help us campaign on this, email me, Ceri.williams@blueyonder.co.uk.
THANKS
Ceri
