Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know why there are so many deep holes spread around Chestnuts park? Are they linked to drainage issues? They seem too deep for dogs to have caused and I doubt there have been any badgers in the area for a few centuries.

They're quite dangerous and could do serious damage to knees, ankles, hips etc if someone stepped into one without seeing it, particularly if running. Perhaps thats why there are never any organised football matches there.

The original drainage has collapsed

I really hope they do. I twisted my ankle by stepping into the hole 2 years ago and am still feeling uncomfortable.

Friends of Chestnuts have raised all the issues in the park with Park Services and are due to have another walkabout to highlight things. I'll get our Chair to report here if you like.

About 1960 there were huge drainage works with deep holes dug in the park, I remember standing watching all the diggers working as a kid. I think they were towards where the old play areas were, but memories aren’t always accurate.
