First we need to challenge the idea that dropping litter is an important social good as it creates jobs.

Yes I have heard this sincerely quoted, in Haringey, in 2016.

I've lived in Haringey for two years now and I've seen more litter intentionally dropped in that time than I did during the previous 33 years put together.

I used to work in litter enforcement (not for Haringey) so I speak with some authority when I say this. It was my job to look for people dropping litter.  I'm also so glad that's not my job any more.

Often I ask people to pick it up (actually my favourite method is just to point it out and say "excuse me, you dropped somethings").  It does get exhausting though.

Anyway, I should put some gloves in my bag so I can pick litter up when I encounter it, especially if there's one of these charity bins nearby.

I'm not sure what you mean by "charity rubbish bins"...you don't mean the stuff for re-use I'm assuming

Did you read the article? It's all in there.

Sorry, no I hadn't realised it was a link! Blame middle aged eye sight...I also challenge people in precisely the same way when they drop litter.

Happened across this piece on Harringay's website which seems to be saying that these bins will be arriving in Tottenham this week.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll look out for the bins.

If Veolia is funding the charity donations, I wonder where Wrigley cones into it? Will they be funding a deep clean of the surrounding pavements to get rid of their product from our streets? I got a piece of fresh chewing gum on my shoe yesterday, disgusting.
