CHANGE OF DATE: A Toast to the 1773 Mayor of Stroud Green

I have brought forward the Toast to the Mayor of Stroud Green from next week to this Sunday, July 23rd, 7pm still at the Stapleton Tavern.

Warning: This will be a totally unstructured event, basically a social get together for anyone interested in local history who cares to mark the occasion, the 250th anniversary of the Stroud Green Badge which was awarded to the newly elected 'Mayor', Thomas Legg, on July 26th 1773.

In the spirit of the original Ancient Corporation of Stroud Green I may crack a few jokes and offer a few light observations about the corporation 's capers but there will be no history lesson and sadly no singing of the 1773 Stroud Green song either this year (no musical accompaniment available).  But it will be fun. I plan to make the Toast about 7.15-7.30pm and then put the Mayor back in his coffin and lay him to rest for the next 250 years. Roll up!
