We work hard to keep vehicle crime down and react to any apparent trend quickly.
Of late we have noticed a slight increase in motorbikes being stolen. The method seems to be to simply lift the bike up and put it in the back of a van and drive off.
Chains and disc locks stop them being ridden off but unless the bike is chained with a decent chain to something solid they are easily lifted away.
We have walked the whole and spoken to as many motorbike/scooter owners as we have found where their bike was not secured and advised them. We will write to those that were not at home when we visited.
In essence please chain your bike to a post/tree/something solid to prevent it being lifted away. Ensure that you do not park on the footway where this is not allowed, park on the roadway end on to the tree/post etc.
If you park it in your front garden area please consider installing a ground anchor or similar and ensure it is properly fixed in.
There are a wide range of devices available. In a similar way to Thatcham who rate vehicle security www.soldsecure.co.uk list approved devices according to a grading system.
