Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Cat Hunting in Seaford Road area N15
Could i suggest that cat owners in the Seaford Road area keep their cats in during the night or restrict their access to the front as much as possible as there are two black guys that go hunting cats with their trophy dogs (pit bull type) in this area during the night. Their normal procedure is to corner a cat in a residents garden and then place a dog either side of the cats escape route and then one of them will then flush the cat out for the dogs to rip to pieces.
I have reported them to the police previously but apparently there is nothing that they can do to stop them.

Thanks for letting us know, that is terrible!! Wish the neighbourhood police or someone out there could do something about this.
It would be great if you could put this in the Pets Forum as well as pet owners will be more likely to see it there.
My advice to cat owners is always to keep their cats inside at night as it reduces the risk of them getting lost, reduces injuries from cat fights and helps wildlife. Unfortunately stray or lost cats have nowhere to go at night.

A lightning speed Google suggests that this is called 'Cat Coursing' and has been something of an issue for a number of years around the UK. A 2011 report in The Daily Telegraph suggests that the police can do something about it. In the report the Darlington Police are quoted as saying they seek custodial sentences for this crime.
If you can't get the police interested, you can report any incidents via the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline.

We had a similar (alleged) situation in Tiverton last summer. Incidents were reported to RSPCA and local police who both needed video evidence before action could be taken.

What's wrong with eyewitness statements, if eg a car registration can be added? Why is police evidence acceptable when civilians' isn't (ahem, pl*bgate)? Video would be useful but unless things have changed since I used to do evidence photography, the pics just back up your written or verbal account of what you saw.

No you have to have CCTV to prove a crime these days. I recently had some items stolen by downstairs neighbours from a locked communal area to which they have a key but was told nothing the police could do about it because it wasn't on CCTV.
This cat hunting is dreadful and if I ever witness anyone doing this I will not be responsible for my actions

But if you'd seen the robbery (but chosen to stay out of sight) your witness statement should be adequate, no?

Yes, this smacks of the police choosing not to do anything about it rather than not being able to. I suspect if this had been reported west of the tracks in Haringey the police might be more interested.

This is pretty horrific. Cat owners should remember, that if your cat is not on your property it is probably on someone else's. Your cat does not have permission to go into other people's gardens! Please keep you cat at home just as you would a dog. On the question of 'nothing they can do about it' of course this is a criminal act and anyone able to record or witness it would be entitled to call 999. Anyone who would set their dogs on a cat is likely to be a threat to people as well..........
