Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My daughter is keen to the point of obsession about us getting a cat but I have deep reservations. We never had any pets when I was young and I feel worried that if we get a cat and then I end hating my life I will have to wait till the cat dies a natural death until I am free. That said I am the only person in the family who has these worries and I don't want to be a roadblock on my daughter's dreams so I was wondering if it was possible to foster a cat.. have one in the house for a few weeks just to see what it is like and if it turns out to be tolerable then we can move to the next step and if it is all that I feared we can just give the cat back. I know that cats might take time to settle into a new home and so this might not actually work as a plan but wondered if anyone had any experience of cat fostering and whether there are any local places that offer such a service.

Hi Safraz

In short - yes it is possible to foster cats. We initially fostered our two and then decided to keep them - they were rescue cats from Morocco.

I've posted a link to Cats Protection's Foster page, but I think lots of cat charities are looking for temporary homes, if permanent ones can't be found.

Your approach is very responsible - a lot of cats and dogs end up in shelters because people bought them and then found out they couldn't cope

Also Stokey Cats and Dogs are looking for fosters. I've posted the link to the HOL article beow

Stokey Cats and Dogs are a local volunteer group who rescue local cats and they have a Stokey Cats and Dogs Facebook group. They always need more fosterers, which means providing a temporary indoor home for a cat until a permanent home is found. Short term or long term fosterers are always needed. Most of Stokey's rescue cats in need of a temporary foster home come from the streets. Stokey get them neutered, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms before they go to their foster homes. All veterinary bills are covered by Stokey, so foster carers don't have to worry about this aspect of looking after a cat temporarily. Stokey always provide a foster starter kit which includes a litter tray, cat litter, food bowls, blanket or a basket to sleep, and food). If you are interested in fostering please get in touch via email to stokeycatsndogs@gmail.com and they will send you a foster application form.

We always look for foster carers and would be happy to have a chat but can you please specify what are your reservations? As cats in foster care should stay strictly indoors it would be good to have a better understanding of your worries. Please feel free to email stokeycatsndogs@gmail.com :-)
