We went with the guy who sander our other floorboards in the end. He is midway through and seems to be going well but we decided on a short-cut rather than having to take the stairs apart. Can give you more details if this sounds useful to you

Reading this thread has just made me realise that I need to get someone to fix my stairs. They creak quite badly but like a fool I've just assumed it's one of those things and been living with it (whilst hoping a foot doesn't go through).

Could I be rude and ask if anyone could give me a ballpark figure that I might expect to be quoted?
