Hi All, Having done a bit of online research I've decided it would make lots of sense to put insulation on the joists (& seal the gaps) on the downstairs bare floorboards. We've made most of our Victorian House reasonably energy efficient with loft insulation and modern double glazing but there is still quite a flow of cold air coming from under the floorboards and it's something we've got to fix before this Winter's price rises. Has anyone on here had this done or could recommend someone who could do this?

I've found this to be great at sealing the gaps

Worth getting a couple of different sizes or a sampler pack first
Thanks Adam, I'm getting a quote next week for the job. E
I looked at this myself last, Eugene. I didn't get round to it, but it's on my list. It looks pretty straightforward as a DIY job, essentially you need the insulation roll, a roll of strapping and a stapler. It's like upside down loft insulation, with the strapping to hold it in place. I found plenty of how-to's online. It looks like a bit of a pain, but pretty straightforward and not too bad if you have easy access to your underfloor. That last issue is probably what meant I didn't get round to it. There's a bit to shuffle round in the cellar to give me clear access.....but it is on my list.....
Unfortunately we don’t have access & I lack the skills to do it. Someone online made a good point - if all the gaps in a typical ground floor with bare floorboards were added together it’s the equivalent of half a permanently open window.
Not having access would be enough to put me off doing it myself. The gaps are the worst, but i don't think its just them. The cold also radiates through the boards and the heat out - just the same principle as loft insulation.
i tried to find someone to do it under the Green Deal, but no one was interested; thats why i started looking at doing it myself
