We have had two car break ins in the last three days in Lausanne Road. Is the rest of the ladder seeing an increase in car thefts? Any advice to lessen the risk aside from removing all valuables from sight including disabled badges?
Has anyone else seen suspicious people going up and down the road? One of the thieves was a cyclist repeatedly going up and down the road.

Hi Phil, I just exported the chat from Lausanne WhatsApp group to check for the previous spate of these in Lausanne rd. in the chat we reported 4 car break ins around the weekend 19-21st June. I think one was interrupted in that the car alarm went off and the owners looked out the window- so they may be able to say perhaps if it seemed like the same perpetrator?
At the same time in the chat someone else also reported an attempt by someone with a torch to gain entry to the rear of a property, and we were warned to double check windows locked etc.
my boyfriend and I both had our cars broken in to. He had a great deal of outdoor kit in the boot as had literally just come back from a trip and not unloaded. Nothing on view in either car. I am not of the opinion that if I leave something in my car boot it is then my fault if someone breaks in and steals it. For context- boyfriend has left his car outside his flat which is a building site for months and it’s never been touched. My car was broken into in June, and previously once before also, and has separately also had the catalytic converters stolen. I’m underwhelmed to say the least...
thanks for sharing this. i think the street whatsapp groups are useful but also the fragmentation of info sharing they seem to entail is not a good thing. even the few comments on this thread show how much more widespread problems are than just a single road. so if someones leaves a car unlocked and you need to find the owner a street whatsapp is great but for many things in my opinion its better to share across the whole community.
Cars on Hewitt have been targeted through the summer.
Sadly pretty common around sgr too - seems like we have a crew doing the rounds locally - tough to catch though. On another note, are we still not allowed to point cameras towards the road?
Happening Borough wide. I have seen more Police patrols around my Area
Not helped by the growing number vans being parked in the Area
I have seen a man riding a bike in early hours. I have lite him up several times with a powerful torch As he swerves looking in to cars , riding the wrong side of the Road. Talking to people of the phone
Joke is when offenders do get caught, they are back on the street within hours, often committing more offences. As aware that in most cases when they get before a Court they will only have last offences dealt with. Then possibly get suspended Sentence even for multiply offences
I have also seen Men going around in numbers shaking cars to see if they have alarms or anyone is concerned about them being around vehicles
Answer more pressure on Police and local Authorities for more Street Cameras. Aware that home Security cameras. Should not be watching vehicles that catch the public But did see a report where residence was working with others across the road to focus cameras on neighbors vehicle
Another issue is that most car alarms can Not be herd when properties have double glazing and windows are closed. Aware their are apps that will alert you by phone when car alarms got off.
We had 6 motors stolen off Farrer rd ,having spoken to the investigator 2,700 Range Rovers & Evokes have been stolen from the London area in 12 months, apparently they are very easy to access.
