Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have to find a new GP in a hurry and have not had great luck in the past. My partner and i are adopting and my SW has pointed out that my GP made some comments on my adoption medical form which she took to be that basically he doesn't approve of lesbian couples adopting.  (I've since read them and she isn't being over-sensitive on my behalf). We are now adopting 3 kids and i can't put the issue off anylonger. So can anyone recommend a good GP, ideally who is or maybe good with kids and is or maybe not homophobic.

Unfortunately, the first one we had round here was quite shockingly aggressive and unhelpful  (again after i had mentioned my sexuality) so it's made me think that who is nearest isn't necessarily the best way to choose. And 3 kids probably means we are going to be seeing a lot of him/her, and i want to protect them from as much unreasonable cr*p like that as i can.

I live in N15 on woodlands park road (near st anne's and west green road).

really grateful for any recommendations at all.

Good luck trying to register there if you're outside N4 though. None of my desperate pleading worked. :(

I eventually registered at Fernlea - could be worse.

I'd also recommend Dr Smeaton - very sensible and caring young doctor who shows great empathy and sensitivity.....
I'm stunned! Glad you're complaining, take it all the way! And good luck with finding a new GP. I am unfortunately not sure if my GP would not be the same as the one you already have, so won't recommend.

I too am shocked to hear about this behaviour from a GP.

Don't know if you'd be able to register there but we are with the Heron Practice at the John Scott Health Centre and have been very happy with it. We have 2 young children so have seen all the practice doctors there! It's on Green Lanes, south of Manor House tube. Worth checking - they have a website - google Heron Practice.

JS Medical Practice at 107 Philip Lane are very good.  I'm in N15 too and had no problem registering with them.

I'm also in Woodlands Park Rd, and I second this practice (there are 2 there, actually). I'm with Dr Rohan there, and there is a really lovely woman too. They've been our doctor's since 1996, and they've always seen children the same day. They now see grownups same day too, plus they have online booking. Good luck - with the doctor and the adoption.

Thanks guys - this has been really really helpful. I've registered with Dr Smeaton, and now we have a couple of back up suggestions should we have to move again for any reason. And thanks also for the support and outrage. This forum also made lovely change from the comments on the NHS site which is predictably full of furious people. Right off to complain about my old GP.

Many thanks.

great, dr smeaton is 10 out of 10 in my experience!
