Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

If you are (or have been) a governor of a school which is an academy, I'd be very keen to hear from you about your experiences (good or bad). But please only reply if you've been a governor please - I'm hoping not to turn this into a thread about the merits or otherwise of academies!

Just PM me to get in touch.

Thanks.

Without getting in to the politics of it... one thing you need to be aware of is the different governance arrangements for academies that are part of a multi-academy trust (chain) and those that are independent. In those that are independent, the role of the governor is broadly the same as that of a governor of a maintained school. If your academy is part of a multi-academy trust the 'governing body' of an individual school has no real power/responsibility. It may be delegated power by the board of the trust, but as with all delegated power, this can be removed at the whim of the board. The agreement in these cases is not between the individual academy's board and the Secretary of State but between the multi-academy trust's board and the SoS.

Thanks Asher. Are you a governor yourself?

Plato would never allow a governor near his place.

Too busy lying in bed listening to Thracian flute players?
