'Buy one get one free' scheme to fund more London police officers
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced a unique ‘buy one get one free’ scheme to recruit more police officers in collaboration with local councils.
For every new police officer a borough pays for, the Mayor will ‘match fund’ the post and recruit another officer. This means boroughs will effectively be given two police officers for the price of one – a huge boost to the numbers of uniformed officers patrolling local streets.

I see a golden opportunity to mesh these Boris Street Runners with Dave's Big Society.
If every HOL member who has moaned on here about never seeing a Bobby on the Beat when they happen to twitch their front room curtains could just put their money where their mouse is we'd have our own special constabulary patrolling every Ladder road and Harringay Passage 24/7 at no extra cost to Joe Goldberg's deep pockets.
