Hi all - this is the first time I'm writing on HoL, and due to very upsetting circumstances. Our house, at the top of Effingham Road, was burgled yesterday (Saturday) between 3pm-7pm. As a result, we have lost very valuable heirlooms, and has left us utterly shocked! This is a long shot, but if anyone here noticed any suspicious activity around that time, please let me know.
The police officer from the forensics team said that these kinds of burglaries are quite a frequent occurrence in Harringay. In fact, I overheard her saying she was heading to Allison Road after investigating our property.
Please be careful and double lock your front doors and take the necessary precautions in order to prevent yourselves heartache.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
Does your advice about front doors mean that the burglars gained entry through your front door?
That's right, Hugh. They brazenly managed to gain entry to our house by using some kind of implement to force the door open. And it was in broad daylight.
An implement, I take it, that would be ineffective where a door is secured with the mortice lock as well as the rim nightlatch?
Thank you for the reminder. When you're leaving your house and you know that you'll only be gone a short while, it's tempting to think that using the mortice is just being pernickety.
Yes, I believe a mortice lock would have done the trick.
Real sorry to hear about that HY. There are some real selfish, heartless gits out there. And quite possibly all funding addictions. Really hope you get your valuables back.
Thank you, John, though I won't hold my hopes high.
Very sorry to hear this too. Thanks for sharing the warning.
Sorry to hear this, horrible. I stupidly left my front window slightly open overnight couple of months ago in the hot weather, and some brazen soul climbed in and stole everything whilst I was asleep in the room next door
yes it’s essential everyone double locks their front door, I always go on about this. We even had free locks dropped off by the police a few years ago, to all the houses on our road and a few other ladder ones. Due to the fact there are so many break ins. Opportunists, don’t make it easy for them
I am really sorry about this HY. I had a house burglary in November 2000 and still have not fully recovered from it. I am happy it is being investigated, since the policy was changed a few years ago. In my case, it wasn't considered a priority and there was no real investigation or support given at the time. I don't think these people realize the impact they have on families when they invade our properties. I wish you all the best.
