Burgalry - Green Lanes
Hi,
Yesterday evening I came home to find that our flat (above a fried chicken shop on Green Lanes) had been burgled. They have taken our laptops - a silver Advent that runs on Linux and a black Toshiba that runs on Windows. Both are about 3/4 years old so not very valuable. A long shot I know, but if anyone happens to come across these in a 2nd hand computer shop or on ebay then we'd love to know. There were a lot of photos and essays on them that we are gutted about losing.

For your new laptops (assuming you will replace them) load tracker software onto them, so if they go missing, when the thief or black market buyer turns it on you have a picture of them and GPS location

3-4 year old laptops do not have tracking abilities. I would recommend an online backup solution. Mozy give you 2GB for free.

Fair point, once it's plugged into the web and hasn't been formatted it could run some software sending its IP address. Backup, backup, backup...
