Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi there

This is a question about the physical limits for Sky broadband.

What is your maximum internet speed with Sky?

I am aware that the broadband is not the main priority for Sky provider as most of us is with Sky because of TV channels. Are they able to pass more than 7Mbps  in practice?

Big Brother Rupert sees all, hears all

Hi Marek

I am a Sky customer and I normally achieve download speeds of around 13mb on a copper line.

A lot depends on how far you live from the serving exchange, whether or not Sky have installed their own exchange equipment or whether your broadband is being supplied through BT equipment. (Broadband Connect)

Sky offer fttc fibre services in some areas and speeds of around 76mb are achievable dependent again on how far away you live.

I was a happy O2 Broadband customer on a 20Mbps connection (actual speed around 16Mbps).

At some point last year O2 announced its customers that Sky would take over the broadband division but that there would have been no changes from the customers' point of view.

When the switch over actually happened the speed dramatically dropped and got worse and worse every day, getting as low as 3Mbps.

Then they really pissed me off sending me a £27 bill instead of the usual £13 I used to pay, claiming they were charging me because I didn't have their Sky TV and Sky Talk. I went mental, spent hours on the phone and on chat with their utterly useless customer care service and eventually gave up and switched to BT Infinity (the 38Mbps one) which is obviously more expensive but it's so much better, faster and more stable.

Never with Sky again. Ever.
