Was checking my broadband account the other day.
Seems they have without asking put a very high monthly allowance on my landline calls.
Was after a phone call able to reduce it to maximum of £10.00.

If you have a mobile phone, you can essentially call for free using data calling. The quality of the whatsapp calls now is great, it's just that you both need a mobile phone with whatsapp installed. The app is free, the phones are very cheap.
Particularly amazing for international calls - either voice or video.
If the choice is between using a landline which a person pays for (as in this case), or data, one assumes that the person is at home. This person has broadband. One might assume that they also have wifi.
My assumption above was that they have wifi. I'm also assuming that if they have it, they're smart enough to use it instead of using up their data allowance.
Forgot to mention I have a mobile on another Network that gives me Unlimited phone calls.
My Internet connection is Fibre and unlimited Access. Given the choice would not have a Land line
