One widget that immediately made sense to me, was a piece of plumbing designed to suppress fires in kitchens.

This low stumpy little gadget would sit between the basin top and a mixer tap and would be activated remotely by a heat sensor (NB not a burnt toast-smoke sensor) and would usher forth a mist of water under mains pressure through six nozzles, enough to deny oxygen to a fire until the fire brigade arrived.

It could be retro-fitted. It would benefit from a live demo but there is a video of it in operation.

Seems to make sense to me.
