Boris Johnson road strategy criticised by RAC

The

RAC Foundation is not impressed by Mayor Johnson's roads strategy. It says:
The Mayor of London is in danger of becoming pre-occupied with minority-focused transport schemes, and high-cost initiatives rather than concentrating on the fundamental travel problems faced by millions of people every day. His emphasis on cycle "super-highways", bikes for hire and a new bus for London has blinkered him to the wider strategic issues.

They also want him to drop his plans to replace the bendy busses on purely economic grounds and they want him to introduce a London wide congestion charge.

Why are you giving exposure to a "niche" group like the RAC on HoL?
And I suppose 250 pedestrians (on two legs, three or even four) looking for a local bus for their short stretch of the B138 would be dismissed by the RAC as looking for a "niche mode of transport".
Quite right. These "minority-focused transport schemes" are a complete waste of time! What we really need to concentrate on is getting more cars on the road. There simply aren't enough of them at the moment.
All these bloody buses, bikes and pedestrians getting in the way
Instead of forking out money for replacement for the bendys and the New RM, imagine what would happen to the level of air pollution in the capital, if Boris had decided to convert London's 8,000 diesel bus fleet back to trolleybuses over the next 10-12 years.

These days trolleybuses are very flexible and can also work reasonably long distances without wires (in architecturally sensitive areas). Electric buses don't need the speed capabilties that electric cars do. That together with trams on major routes, would cut emissions significantly in the capital.

Eberswalde, just north of Berlin and BTW in Germany, a bus with it's indicator on to pull out into traffic has the right of way- and take it - no messing with cars here
He's already cancelled the cancellation of the West Congestion charge much to the disappointment of his Tory buddies in Chelsea and Kensington.

He has also scrapped phase three of the emission zone, which I actually agree with.
...He's already cancelled the cancellation of the West Congestion charge

He's got to find the money to pay for 'his' new buses somewhere..
