There's a black cat which might be getting into a few fights in back gardens of Duckett Road and back gardens of Cavendish Road. I've seen it looking for food going up and down the front gardens on Duckett Rd. It also worries me that it seems to be on the roadside a lot, which isn't safe for a cat. Hopefully it has a home - maybe it doesn't have a catflap so gets stuck outside when owners are out, I don't know.
I haven't been able to get close to it or get a photo yet. It's wearing an old red collar, which now seems to have twisted round so that the white backing on the other side is showing. The cat has been trying to get the collar off which looks tight (hopefully it's not a flea collar as they don't work plus can be harmful to cats). The collar is not a safety release collar, so this cat might injure itself.
Does anyone know the cat, whether it has an owner and whether it is neutered? If it isn't neutered, it would help if it was neutered as it reduces fighting and reduces the number of kittens born without homes.

Hi Justine, I know the cat. He has been around for a while. He fights with my cat a lot and keeps spraying in the garden. I don't think he is neutered, from his behaviour. I have tried to befriend him to find out if he is chipped, but he doesn't get close. He used for wear a yellow collar a few months ago, so it probably does belong to someone, although not looked after very well...
This cat is not to be confused with another other black cat wearing a red collar, also roaming around Duckett Road. He is an ex-stray, who I am now looking after. My one has been neutered and vaccinated and although he likes a good roam around the front, he lives mostly in my back garden and is a sweet little boy.
Hi Anton. Yes he has been around for a while. Well if you're able to catch the fighting black cat, you'll be doing him, your cats and our cats a big favour. I'm pretty sure he's been attacking one of my cats - not in my garden - and you're right, he needs neutering and a good home if not chipped.
One of my cats has had a lot of fight injuries in the last 6 months - my cat's neutered and not normally a fighter - and he's had a lot of vet bills - it's happening during the day as my cat isn't out at night. It's in the back gardens of Duckett Rd (on the Cavendish Rd side). I expect the black cat will also have some residual fight injuries needing vet treatment - poor thing, it's not a nice life for that cat at the moment, it would be nice if he was helped before the winter. If you get a chance try to take a photo, maybe someone will recognise him.
Please catch him if you can and get him neutered.……You're a star if you are able to manage it! I can't get close to him in my garden, he only comes as far as the fence.
Like you, we've got a lot of cats neutered over the years. I wish everyone would get their pets neutered and microchipped - poor things, I hope our road isn't typical in respect of animals needing help because if the rest of the ladder is the same…..
If you ever need to borrow a cat trap, I have one - I've only ever used it as a last resort to catch 2 truly feral cats which needed help (one was so ill he didn't survive and the other had FIV, but we found him a good home).
Anyway, my injured cat has stayed at the vets for a few days last week with his latest nasty bite injuries and since then I've had to keep him in temporarily while it heals - he's been bored stiff stuck inside. (he was abandoned by a neighbour who moved away so we had to take him in, otherwise he would have ended up in rescue - luckily we got him insured - as his vet bills since we've had him have been over £1500 so far!)
As for the other black cat which you've taken in - yes I now remember that you mentioned it on another post. Well done for getting him neutered, vaccinated and chipped. It's great that you've given him a home. Do me a favour, take a photo of him sometime, then I'll know your cat if I see him.
Sure, I'll get a picture of mine...he has a little white patch under his chin. Funny enough, I was thinking of changing his collar to a different colour as I don't want to get him confused with the other cat!
I am pretty sure that one has a owner as he is never after any food. He seems to come from the gardens on Cavendish Road, south of the passage (I am near the passage and that's where I see him going). I would be worried about taking someone else's cat and get them neutered without their consent. Ideally I would like them to do it themselves. The problem is finding out who it belongs to.
If he gets close again I'll take a picture of him and post it here....maybe we'll find out a bit more about this naughty little cat...
Yes it would be great if he has an owner, fingers crossed that someone will recognise a description or photo on here. He must have had a few injuries as well which any owner would notice.
Another option is to put a note on his collar with your telephone number for any owner to call you. I can't get close enough to do that, maybe you'll have more luck doing that than me.
The trouble is an unneutered cat roaming leads to more homeless kittens, plus more cat fights and injuries. As you will know, fighting increases the risk of a cat getting FIV, which none of us can fully protect our cats from. I got my injured cat tested for FIV last week, as he's had a lot of fight injuries this year, but he's fine.
I haven't seen your cat with a little white patch under his chin, he must be staying close to home. These collars are good www.kittycollars.co.uk if you fancy a change of collar and they can print your tel number on collar as well if you want.
