Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I did the RSPB Birdwatch at Railway Fields today. A very relaxing experience, if a little chilly.

Over one hour, trying to stay in one place, I saw the following perching in the woodland area.

1 collar dove

1 wood pigeon

2 blue tits

2 great tits

1 long tailed tit

I've attached pictures of these birds below.

Not a great tally, alas. But as I was leaving at the end of the alloted hour for doing the birdwatch, what should I see but a tree off the lane filled with all sorts of happy birds, who then treated me to a fly-past, one by one. So the birds had the last laugh.

Oh - I've been making a mistake.  I thought a bullfinch was a male chaffinch but i just looked it up.  So no bullfinches I'm afraid - just a male chaffinch!!  I'm now going to look more carefully!!!

I've got a classic RSPB two port feeder which you can clean easily.  It's mounted on a pole.  But the secret is the Squirrel Baffler.  I feed RSPB no mess sunflower seeds.  It's all quite expensive to set up from scratch but honestly I get so much pleasure from the birds - goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches, great and blue tits.  Long-tails and blackcaps and dunnocks in the garden but not on the feeder.  But where are my starlings!

Here is the link to the baffle

I live on Stapleton Hall Road to the south.  We have really long gardens to the Gospel Oak to Barking railway. It is a haven.  You're welcome to come round for a spot of birdwatching.  Message me.

we got your starlings maybe, they are going mad for fat in half coconut shells in garden, loads of sparrows, about 50, today, after seeds from hangers too. The squirrel gets what they drop.

haven't ever seen a sparrow in the garden and I used to get starlings in the trees next door until the vandal cut them down.  Maybe I'm the wrong side of the tracks for sparrows!
