Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was forced for safety reasons to have the front drive repaired with cement etc.

Two lorries came with ready mix cement parked on side of drive where is a double yellow line

with NO problems.

later in the work the builder who i hired said he needed to go to SELCO in White Hart Lane to order more sand/cement.I drove him there and paid for the materials.Only he can deal with Selco as they ONLY supply Tradesmen(ie builder is account holder but i paid cash while with him)

The delivery was arranged for same day. When the lorry arrives the Selco driver says he will only unload the material if i pay him £65 "in case i get a Parking ticket".

I replied "we had two lorries here already with no problems"he then says "how do you know they didn't get a ticket there is a camera up there?"

I then replied "that camera is a Bus lane camera nothing to do with parking and if a warden comes the Parking rules are you are allowed to unload and WON'T get a ticket as long as they see you actually engaged in the activity and not just parked on  double yellow lines"

He is still adamant about wanting £65 up front "in case he gets a ticket"and rings up Selco who confirm this policy.

I am between a rock and a hard PLACE as if he doesn't deliver the job stops(already loads of time lost due to rain)

I am forced to pay £65 and he states "the account holder ie the builder will be reimbursed in a months time"

In a months time the builder will be working somewhere else so there is practically no chance of getting it from him!

I get a delivery note and he goes.

The next day i rang Haringey Parking Office to make sure i was correct about delivery parking on double yellow lines and YES I WAS RIGHT AND THE CAMERA IS A BUS LANE CAMERA.

Many companies encounter occasional Parking warden problems and take the hit anyway.

On complaining to Selco a manager said"account holders ie builders etc should know about this already"So it's in the small print somewhere .but we the public are not account holders are we?

I rest my case.
