Best ivy for privacy

Hi,

Our next door neighbours have built a cabin in the backyard, its big windows now look into our house and garden :(

Can anyone recommend some fast growing ivy/evergreen vine that might offer some privacy but not take up too much of our backyard? The fence is low but has trellis.

I think what you're looking for is "Canary Islands ivy". Its a sort of ivy with very large variegated leaves and it grows like stink. I know this because a neighbour planted it against the wall of our extension many years ago and its been quite a job keeping it trimmed back ever since. So I would normally not advise planting it but perhaps in your case ......
