Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A 'upmarket' Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar is set to open in the site of the former Pumphouse in New River Village, off Hornsey High Street. Kassaba Restaurant has plans for some exotic entertainment to accompany dinner.

It will host themed nights with belly and flamenco dancers, live music and salsa classes for adventurous customers - all separated from the main dining area.

The building's interior, modelled on the inside of a mosque, boasts a shisha lounge, separate dining hall, boutique cocktail bar and some of the biggest chandeliers in the country, according to the restaurant's manager.

The Pumphouse was forced to close in April this year after a drop in trade. Kassaba is set to open in mid-September.

This sounds great. Be great to hear some live music too.
I love it. Living in New River Village and we've always wondered why such a lovely atmospheric space has such bad service and food for such high prices. They tried to get themselves out of the downward spiral with some live music that was positively cringeworthy. We paid for our outrageously priced drinks and got out off there never to look back.

In the early days of New River Village, it was said, the Pumphouse would even deliver cocktails to your door step....the good old days.

Now if the shisha lounge would have a table football also, we might reconsider stopping by the Pumphouse again. Will definitely give it a shot.
Promotion tip (obviously so selfless of me to suggest) is to do some form of specials for the New River Village residents, like Tuesday night half priced cocktails, to get us all happy and loyal to the place and recommend it to friends in/outside of Hornsey. That's a lot of mouths talking about a new establishment and could possibly (might have already) determine the fate of a new restaurant/bar in an area (just like Soho) that has plenty of eat-out places to choose from.
This is a great idea. I second the special promotions for NRV residents.
Well, the restaurant had what looked like an opening night on Friday, the 15th October and, as a NRV resident, I must say I was quite disappointed by the look of massive bouncers on the door, loud music and generally pretentious atmosphere surrounding what was happening on the night. Not a good start, but let's see what happens in the future.

Restaurant (Kassaba) now closed down and space up for rent. Never thought I'd say it but (especially having seen him recently on Ruby Wax's programme about mental heath) - come back Johnnie Mountain, all is forgiven! (and there's now on-site parking for the customers). The best food was served when he was in charge of the Pumphouse.
