Does anybody know whether the planned Vietnamese restaurant next to the Salisbury is still hoping to open? We had a moment of lemon grass dream when the sign went up, but every time I walk by it looks as though nothing new is being done inside.

I just asked for an update from Harringay Traders and was told: "They are awaiting piped gas and extraction fan permissions as far as we are aware".
So we'll all have to be patient a bit longer.
Apparently it has no mains gas. The previous tenants had to cook on bottled gas. If I were an incoming tenant I'd ask my landlord to remit rent payments until the gas is connected. I guess until there's gas, no noodles!
Yes, before the financial crisis I was a commercial property lawyer. There's usually a rent-free period to allow the tenant to fit out the premises - six months is common.
i was excited to see the shopfront too.
The real problem lies in the lack of A3 planning permission. The flue has already been installed and it is the cause of quite a few conmplaints.
They have applied for a change of use from a retail shop to a restaurant, but a lot of the residents and leaseholders in the building have submitted objections. I heard that a large residents association in the area was also planning to object. the application is here.
They can get a temporary permission (2 yrs) to convert the shop as a matter of course, but the flue could remain a problem.
I was really looking forward to a Vietnamese option in the area.
Thanks for flagging that planning application. I see the tenants and/or owners of all three flats have objected as well as the owner of the business behind the proposed restaurant. There's also an objection from someone who lives in Salisbury Mansions a few hundred yards down St Ann's Road. I'm not sure I sympathise with his objections but I love the fact that he prepared his submission on a typewriter! The final objection seems to have been added to the wrong application by the Council.
I can imagine that if I was in a flat above the proposed restaurant I'd have concerns too.
The application was made on 21st October and 21 days were given for objections. So I imagine the decision will be out soon.
