Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Whilst all eyes today are on Back to the Future II, we shouldn't forget that the original Back to the Future time travelled to the past (before coming 'back to the future').

With that in mind, as HoL's contribution to the BTF mania today, I offer you Harringay's own time capsule to the past with which you can travel back to the year dot in Harringay.

"London troubles" 2011?

Was that the great euphemism crisis?  In other words how do we mention riots without actually using words like: riot, arson, looting, killed by police etc?

Or was it the ongoing organic lemon shortage which has so worried people in Muswell Hill?

Ha! No doubt another of those 'petty squabbles'.

Interesting. Hadn't read this article before about the Saturday early evening violence on Green Lanes back in 2002, although was living here when it all kicked off - 13 years ago, how time zooms by!

Remember calling the police for a burglary at the time. That Special Taskforce that Nilgun Canver talks about turned up. Plain cars (BMWs), guys wearing baseball caps & armed with handguns. The burglar was lucky not to be caught! The new residential intake probably don't realise just how far Green Lanes has come.

PS. You seem to have missed out the re-opening of the refurbished Fairland Park (July 2010) on your timeline Hugh :)

V interesting g article.  I remember hearing about  those riots_ I lived in Crouch End.  I would not have lived in the area then... no way. 5 years later when I moved here it had all changed., today beyond recognition...

Thanks for this Hugh - I have really enjoyed reading it.
