Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm pretty sure Parkside Farm in Enfield has been mentioned on here before - but I'm on their mailing list (I like to keep my finger on the pulse of crop news - life on the edge and all that) and I've just received a missive to say they've won Pick-Your-Own Farm of the Year 2011.

Anyway, I thought I'd take the opportunity to say GO if you've not been before. As well as the most sumptuous strawberries and raspberries, they also grow spinach, broad beans, chard, sweetcorn...the list is endless and there's a farm shop selling other treats like local honey. Even though it's only around 20 minutes away, it's also a surprisingly tranquil place and makes for a great summer day out...

Agreed whole heartedly. Wonderful place. You've jogged my memory to a post I did about the farm in The Local Food Group after visiting back in 2009, including a berry colourful photo.

But you know what Londoners are like. They tend to stay in their own 'village', visit the westend or leave London via motorway or runway. :)

Very surprising place. We went on sunday, dodging the rain by cramming into the shop area with hundreds of PIY-ers from all over. It is clearly a regular Family Fun Day Out, with picnic tables and chorus of Happy Birthday over heaps of strawberries. And it is big - this is just the bean field:

Here are some beans. I love the exactly right protective fluff inside the pods:

Did they have blackcurrants yet?

More pics here.
We went this afternoon, set off in a torrential downpour thinking we were crazy - by the time we arrived the sun was shining. Picked blackcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, broad beans, swiss chard, and bought two punnets of gooseberries, which they pick themselves. They also sell meringues and cream! Now my fridge, my freezer and my son are all full of lovely summer fruit.
